A single pack of five litres of Rylard Rytex Bitumen Paint provides high-performance, protective coatings for the underwater hulls of canal boats.
This 'blacking' paint can be used to maintain coal tar epoxy coatings that are no longer available. It offers excellent resistance against abrasions, flexibility, and weather damage.
With easier application and longer life, it outperforms standard bitumen paints and effectively guards against moisture infiltration in both fresh and saline waters.
Keep in dry and cool conditions, away from frost, with a flash point of 23-60˚C.
Before use, it should be thoroughly mixed, preferably with a mechanical agitator.
Only apply it in good weather conditions.
Drying times: (applied to 85 microns DFT)
Dust free: 1hr (10˚C), 30 min (20˚C), 20 min (30˚C)
Hard dry: 3hr (10˚C), 1hr (20˚C), 45 min (30˚C)
Overcoating (min): 24hr (10˚C), 16hr (20˚C), 12hr (30˚C)
Launch time at 10oC: minimum 48 hours after applying final coat.
Surface preparation:
For optimal results, it is recommended to thoroughly blast clean the surface to Sa2½ (ISO 8501-1:2007) standards with a surface profile of 50-75 microns.
Care should be taken to avoid "polishing" the steel surface. For refurbishment, remove all contamination with a pressure wash and prepare any bare metal areas to a minimum of St2 (ISO 8501-1:2007) standard, being careful not to "polish" the steel surface.
Patch primer should be applied before the full coating. Make sure all surfaces are dry and cleaned of any oil, grease, salts, weld flux, or other contamination.
When using airless spray, maintain output fluid pressure at 2000-2400 psi at the tip with a 15-19 thou tip size. For brush and roller application, multiple coats may be necessary to achieve the desired film build.
Small amounts of No.3 Thinner may be used for easier application
