The AG magnesium weld on hull anode has a 2.8kg straight shape and is the preferred size for many narrow boats.
It is essential to properly install and bond sacrificial anodes on all vessels to prevent corrosion through cathodic protection when in contact with water.
This process involves halting the natural reaction of metals in a specific environment through the use of a powerful electrochemical cell. The anode, being of a lesser electrical potential, will corrode instead of the protected metal.
It is important to annually inspect cathodic protection systems and replace sacrificial anodes if more than half are consumed. Before installation, ensure that the anode's surface is clean and free of paint and corrosion.
When replacing anodes, also replace serrated fan disc washers and backing sheets for wood and GRP hulls. Finally, be sure to properly coat exposed nuts, studs, and washers with grease or paint. Fixings: Weld on steel strip.
